Brazilians and sports betting: survey insights

(Brasilia).- 17% of Brazilians have invested in sports betting apps in the last 12 months, according to the ‘Panorama Apps 2024’ survey, carried out by Opinion Box in partnership with Mobile Time.
According to the survey, which interviewed 2,003 people, there is a higher prevalence among men (21 per cent) compared to women (14 per cent). In addition, young people aged 16 to 29 stood out as the group most involved, with 23 per cent of them having placed a bet, compared to 18 per cent of people aged 30 to 49 and 10 per cent of those aged 50 and over.
Differences were also identified in relation to monthly family income, with 20 per cent of classes D and E having bet during the period, compared to 16 per cent of classes C and 16 per cent of classes A and B.
Among the bettors, half recognise that they have lost more than they have won on betting apps, while 28% say they have made a profit and 22% did not perceive a profit or loss. The perception of loss is more common among women (53 per cent), people aged 30 to 49 (54 per cent) and those in class C (57 per cent).
The most popular betting apps in Brazil are Bet 365 and Betano, favoured by 24% and 17% of punters respectively. Next are Sporting Bet (8%), Blaze (6%) and Esportes da Sorte (4%). Pixbet (4%) and BetNacional (3%), while 34% of respondents mentioned other apps.
Brazilians and educational apps
With regard to educational apps, 51 per cent of Brazilians with a smartphone have taken a course via an app in the last 12 months. The proportion is higher among women (54 per cent) than men (47 per cent). The most used apps for education are Hotmart (21 per cent) and YouTube (19 per cent), followed by Duolingo (8 per cent), Google Meet (4 per cent) and Zoom (4 per cent).
For the first time, the survey measured the habit of listening to books, with 20 per cent of Brazilians using audiobook apps in the last 12 months. This experience was more common among younger people and those less financially favoured.
In addition, YouTube (39%), Spotify (8%) and Skeelo (7%) stand out among the favourite audiobook apps. Amazon's Audible (6%) and Google Play (4%) were also mentioned, while 51% of respondents use other apps and 9% have no knowledge of the subject.
